Internship Update

Its probably been about a month since I last updated you guys with my internship journey - A LOT has happened and mainly its been all about  experimenting with leathers. I have looked into making a number of leather accessories and while I may be a novice pattern maker I have learnt a hell of a lot in terms of getting to understand the qualities of different grades of leather. The most notable accessories I have been working on are; a leather card holder  for the other half (no easy job - I think I made about 5 different prototypes and templates before I was happy with it). I have also ventured in to making small clutch bags, which are very classic in design and carry the essentials every girl needs on a night out - I have been prototyping the last few days and have also been leather shopping (I will be sending out clutch bags to my most loyal readers when I'm happy with the final look of the products so keep your eyes and ears peeled if you are one of them!)  Everything hand made of course!

Last but not least, Amanda (founder of I can Make Shoes) and I have been working on designing and hand making a range of summer sandals. Yesterday we managed to finish a pair of espadrilles we had in mind that were simple to achieve and bang on trend from this summer season. We stuck to a basic 'slider' (a.k.a slipper) that just helped to reinforce our understanding of the running stitch that attached the leather panel to the espadrille sole. I would like to say the whole process was extremely therapeutic but that word doesn't even come close to describing the zen like feeling that came over me while I was stitching! Have a look through the pics below and let us know what you think of the sliders! I will start posting more pics when the accessories are developed a bit further. I hope you enjoy scrolling through!

Just when you thought shoes couldn't evolve anymore; in come One Clique Shoes. They have designed revolutionary high heels which consist of a collection of separates with tops and heels that click together. (I sense your interest pique! wait for it.....) As a city girl, I'm always looking for ways to minimise the bulk in my handbag but still stay on trend with the right shoes, it always meant taking a change of shoes for the evenings where I wanted to bar hop with colleagues - One Clique give you the option to do this seamlessly and effortlessly. I can do nothing but commend this great concept, its creativity and innovation has actually left me mind blown with how simple and effective they have made this look. SHOE OF THE WEEK
Aquazzura - WILD THING

These beauties are just exquisite. With such classic design its no wonder that they have been crowned shoe of the week. I love when shoes add that certain 'je ne sais quoi' to an outfit and these do just that. Available in some really great bold colours they completely command the floor. Initially I saw them in a beautiful bright red and slowly they started cropping up in bright pink and most recently in a cobalt blue, which looked absolutely amazing. Aquazzura knew exactly what they were doing when they came to design these - they are just divine! Brands supporting Charities

It's always really heart warming when you see people coming together to help others in need. With the recent Nepal earthquakes there have been two notable  shoe brands that have done their part in helping. Miista (a brand I have recently posted about) have joined with Oxfam to donate money, by simply typing in the code 'MiistaForNepal' at the checkout when purchasing a pair of their shoes, will see half the proceeds go to Oxfam. The brand Toms have used a similar concept however purchasing a pair is not necessary, you simply have to upload an image of your bare feet on Instagram and use the #withoutshoes - this will allow them to donate a pair of Toms for every Instagram post to children in need (not necessarily directly for Nepal but in general - I can imagine some of them will be delivered to Nepal however)

SHOE OF THE WEEK

United Nude : Eamz Mule

I'm always on the look out for new footwear designers as it's so easy to fall in  to the habit of shopping in the same places. I mean every girl loves when they are complimented and asked where their shoes are from aren't they?. I have no doubt these United Nude Eamz Mule would do just that. They have an air of futurism much like the rest of the brand but in a very versatile way, which allows you to incorporate them into every day wear. The mule style is bang on trend at the moment so these are just perfect and add just the right amount of quirk and character. Go on have a scroll!

She finished her MA studies at London College of Fashion in 2014 and since then has won numerous awards for her highly elaborate and intensive concepts within her designs. 'Conjoined Illusion' is a collection where she explores reflection, mirroring, conjoined twins and optical illusions - the intention? to make people look closer at shoes, the make up of their parts and design, challenging the mind and eyes when brought to your attention. They without a doubt do that! Carolin is also passionate about traditional shoe making and materials used - carbon fibre continues to be part of her innovational designs and exploration. Mark my words Carolin Holzhuber is one to keep your eyes on! Check out her Facebook and Instagram for regular updates.

Butterfly Twists

Ladies I know you will appreciate this post. Now I've always been a heels type of woman, but of late, ballet pumps have been slowly creeping into my shoedrobe just for the comfort factor. When I used to work in the city I hated the fact that my shoes would take up most of the room in my bag, in fact I just hated having to carry extra things that I didn't actually need! Butterfly Twists aim to alleviate just that, by designing these new revolutionary flat pumps that roll up to avoid taking up that much needed extra space in that handbag of yours! Ive picked out my favourite styles, but I would definitely suggest checking out the website to see what other styles they have available to! Go on - have a scroll!

Miista

Miley Gold

I love English Summers (who doesn't) and since it will be rearing its head very soon I thought I would make this post about getting your feet summer ready in the most sort after footwear - Miista. I'm so picky with what I like to wear on my feet in the summer. I don't like my shoes to be heavy, but I love a good wedge for some height (so bulk is inevitable) and I don't like too much open toe, but I like my feet to breath - I mean it is the summer after all! With all these requirements in mind I always find it difficult to find the perfect shoes that I can wear for comfort, all the way through the summer. Miista makes that possible.  They have just the right open-ness (I think I just made up a word ha!) and the perfect comfort factor so the wedge isn't too high and reduces the amount of bulk you are walking around in. I've picked out my favourite shoes from their new summer range for you to feast your eyes on - I promise you won't be left disappointed!
