Embroidery Eruption!

If you havn't noticed already - the seasons most sort after shoes are the baroque or embroidered style of choice. At the last Lineapelle expo I attended in London, this trend by far was the most appealing to me and seemed like the trend to dominate next seasons shoe drobe! I have gathered up my favourite embroidered booties and shoes  for the winter wardrobe for you to feast your eyes on.(wohooooo I can go back to wearing all black and let the boots do all the talking!)

All Things Mochi!

The summer is ALL about espadrilles, be it wedges or flats; so my first recommendation for you guys is to head straight to all things Mochi! Im totally obsessed with them. They not only have beautifully embroidered footwear but clothing and accessories too. They primarily focus on bright colours in embroidery and one of a kind pieces. They celebrate handcrafted products from local artisans that specialise in embroidered textiles and craftsmanship from all over the world, including India and Africa, their products in my opinion do so well because they have adopted modern aesthetics with western silhouettes and styles that highlight just how amazing the skill involved is. Mochi has to be your first port of call for your summer wardrobe!

Rungg Shoes

When I was in India last year the colours are what really took my interest, embroidery and appliqué along with beading is something that India is well known for and with all of these components put together with contemporary current themes and trends I believe you can have something visually very beautiful. The craftsmanship found in India is unparalleled to any other, footwear manufacture is an industry sector of India thats a thriving hub for fast fashion brands so when I was told about Rungg shoes, I was thrilled to see a brand thats fashion forward with modern designs utilising the local craftsmanship available. Now I don't know about you but I think the market for footwear found for indian attire is flooded with extremely chincy, far to sparkly and out of fashion designs, that don't compliment the beautiful outfits that are typically worn with them. The western and indian fusion area of fashion is something thats quite niche and when done well can really sell. (you only have to go to Monsoon or Accessorize to figure that out) and I think Rungg shoes have done just that. The collection is  thoughtfully designed and it couples quintessentially western design with beautiful hand embroidered uppers showing off the skill set of the craftsman involved. I absolutely adore them and I think this brand has a huge amount of potential. What I love about them the most is their versatility. I can see them matching a western outfit just as much as an outfit for an asian event be it a wedding or temple visit. So for now I leave you with a few of my favourite combinations that are sure to get your taste buds going.

Fabric of India Exhibition

V&A Museum

Making time for what I love doing is something at the top of my list of goals for this year. Going to more exhibitions is one of them, after a casting I attended yesterday (for a L’oreal commercial lets keep fingers crossed!)  I found my self in Hammersmith with hours to spare before I had to meet my boyfirend for my cousins birthday drinks. Usually in this scenario I like to head straight home or to a Pret to sit and read, but figured I’d have more than enough time to do the exhibition and write about it while I wait. Fabric of India, was a fascinating journey through India (if you hadn’t guessed already from the name of the exhibition) about guess what? FABRICS! Since coming back from India almost a year ago I have found myself drawn towards fabrics and the colours (OH THE COLOUR) that India has to offer. The artisans are like no other and this exhibition does every thing it can to applaud the skilled artisans out there. It made me realise how much I hadn’t seen while I was out there.

Ive always been in awe of delicate and intricate embroidery, and although this was sporadically featured in the exhibtion it was nice to see it included in - after all India is synonymous with embroidery even though Textiles and Fabrics are in the foreground of Indias culture. Now, about the fabrics, which is what this whole exhibition was about, in two words, mind boggling. At a glance the fabrics exuded luxury and pretty simple in its make up. UNTIL I started reading the descriptions; I developed a new found appreciation for them, the techniques involved to weave just one piece of saree fabric is incomprehensible when you see just how much goes into making one thread. The silk manufacture process is a whole different ball game, with families specialising in the nurturing of silkworms. The exhibition was a huge learning curve, not just about the history of textiles but about the history of my own culture too, it was so warming to see other appreciate it too as I walked through the rooms. There is only one more day left of the exhibition, (ARGH!!) and I would definitely recommend going if you have nothing planned for tomorrow!

Manish Arora

Watching the Manish Arora runway show always makes me proud, and even more so on a runway in Paris. His shows are always colourfully magical and definitely highlight parts of his heritage. His shoes follow suit. They compliment the collection beautifully and stand alone as great statement heels too which is why he is so good at what he does. With black always a statement in many women wardrobes, Arora injects that bold amount of colour that is always needed. This seasons collection is just what you might need for next summers wardrobe.

Shoe of the Week
(....all the way from Paris Fashion Week)

Dries Van Noten

Only a couple days into Paris Fashion Week I have already found my new favourite brand, Dries Van Noten. Through keeping up to date with the last few days of shows this particular design house has really caught my eye. This seasons collection is absolutely beautiful and completely under pins this seasons theme. Luxurious fabrics with appliqué, embroidery and intricate detailing with sequins and beading. So you can imagine the shoes were just as much of a delight to look at. Appliqué, bright bold satins and silks on platforms were all the rage in this collection with a few sandals dotted in to. Next season  has revolved around platforms, strap sandals and sliders (fantastic - we can save our feet for another summer).  A wholesome collection thats totally got me excited for summer next year.
