Gold Acid Splash Leather Sliders

So I've embarked upon this weeks shoe making project with some trouble simply because sometimes i have to wear flats but i love designing and making high heels. So designing and sketching became challenge especially when the profile of the design is so different. I have decided to go for sliders, since they are so in at the moment, and have also opted for thick straps that cross over because the leather is a such a shoe off piece. I have only got as far as designing and making patterns for this project and since this is a simple design Im hoping to have this made and finished by Thursday so stay tuned for the finished pair for Mondays post!

AHAAS

This new shoe label from Paris is a new favourite of mine, I came across it a couple days ago and I just love it! The styles offer comfort and coolness and have a real Parisian Chic look for a modern yet urban woman. Ive totally warmed to flats, and these comfy delights are a fantastic option for casual wear even though they are in the slightly more luxe end of fashion. Ahaas short for An hour and A shower launched in 2015 with Dorothee Loerman and Antoine Thieser as the creative directors. They're stocked in Tokyo, Paris and New York and have a bright future ahead of them especially while flats and sliders are still ruling the runway.

Shoe of the Week
Olanna - Eleanor Anukam

Now aren't these beauties just perfect for the Christmas Festivities to come? I adore the emerald flats all sparkly and shiny from the jewelled uppers. These shoes were only released at the start of the month so they're relatively fresh and new on the market along with the rest of the collection which are just as beautiful. If this collection is anything to go by we are in for an exciting time ahead as we see this brand grow.

Caterina Belluardo

In the theme of flat shoes this week East London based luxury footwear brand Caterina Belluardo is one to look out for. She has built a unique A-gender business; seamlessly designing footwear that suits both female and male tastes. Knitted detailing and beautiful leathers feature heavily in her designs which explore traditional leisure-wear styles. Bespoke footwear is another element Bellauardo has to offer with her online shopping experience, you're able to change the colour combinations of a certain style which are then hand made in her East London Studio. (which I'm totally loving) Interning at I Can Make Shoes has allowed me to understand the craft and discipline involved in hand making shoes so this a super appealing feature for someone who might want something a little more unique and individual. With the Winter wardrobe preparation in mind (more like on standby with the weather we've had recently) Belluardo's footwear is perfect  - full of character to brighten up the coming months.

Internship Update

Its probably been about a month since I last updated you guys with my internship journey - A LOT has happened and mainly its been all about  experimenting with leathers. I have looked into making a number of leather accessories and while I may be a novice pattern maker I have learnt a hell of a lot in terms of getting to understand the qualities of different grades of leather. The most notable accessories I have been working on are; a leather card holder  for the other half (no easy job - I think I made about 5 different prototypes and templates before I was happy with it). I have also ventured in to making small clutch bags, which are very classic in design and carry the essentials every girl needs on a night out - I have been prototyping the last few days and have also been leather shopping (I will be sending out clutch bags to my most loyal readers when I'm happy with the final look of the products so keep your eyes and ears peeled if you are one of them!)  Everything hand made of course!

Last but not least, Amanda (founder of I can Make Shoes) and I have been working on designing and hand making a range of summer sandals. Yesterday we managed to finish a pair of espadrilles we had in mind that were simple to achieve and bang on trend from this summer season. We stuck to a basic 'slider' (a.k.a slipper) that just helped to reinforce our understanding of the running stitch that attached the leather panel to the espadrille sole. I would like to say the whole process was extremely therapeutic but that word doesn't even come close to describing the zen like feeling that came over me while I was stitching! Have a look through the pics below and let us know what you think of the sliders! I will start posting more pics when the accessories are developed a bit further. I hope you enjoy scrolling through!

Jemima Vine

I know the name of this blog is High Heels High Hopes but sometimes (just sometimes) flats can be an absolute life saver. I very rarely wear flats but if I do I'll either be wearing my Roshes or Converse. Recently I have found myself looking into  flat ballet pumps because I have been learning how to hand make them with beautiful leathers as an intern at I Can Make Shoes ( I will be blogging about how my internship is going soon). Now with a  firm understanding of the basics as to how flat shoes are made I have become more astute to leathers, designs and soling. They have also made a huge comeback in seasonal footwear trends to so I'm revelling at Jemima Vine's beautifully handcrafted flat pumps made in Spain.  Here are some of my favourites all at £159.99.
